I have come to realize that most of the criticisms against teaching grace and living in grace are true of the Law.
I.e. Some say Grace will lead you to lawlessness and a lifestyle of breaking the Law. The truth is that legalism will lead you to lawlessness and a lifestyle of breaking the law. How? Let me answer a question with a question: what would you call an individual who is trying to live under the Law who continually fails? You would call that person a law breaker who has a lifestyle of breaking the law. They have the Law but no way to ever meet the demands of the law. This is the state mankind finds themselves before Christ. Now add Christ the fulfillment of the Law (of Moses) and you are saved from condemnation and the law of sin and death. So what does it mean to be saved from the law of sin and death? What if you are still living under that law?? You could be a freed man living in a prison cell or you could still be in bondage to sin and death.
Another reason legalists are lawbreakers is that a legalist will break the following laws:
Law of liberty — James 2:12 So speak and so act as those who are to be judged by the law of liberty.
Law of love — James 2:8 If, however, you are fulfilling the royal law according to the Scripture, “You shall love your neighbor as yourself,” you are doing well.
Law of Christ — Galatians 6:2 Bear one another’s burdens, and thereby fulfill the law of Christ.
Law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus — Romans 8:2 For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has set you free from the law of sin and of death.
In reality believers are under the law:
Law of liberty
Law of love
Law of Christ
Law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus
Which law are you under: the law of Moses or the law of Christ?
